Chat bots, those automated robots that respond to human queries, had an underwhelming debut. They didn't catch on with consumers, and critics were unkind. But Facebook hasn't given up.“We’re doubling down and tripling down on bots,” David Marcus, Facebook’s vice president of messaging products told USA TODAY last week.LOS ANGELES — At its annual conference for software developers in 2016, Facebook trumpeted chat bots as the next big thing in tech.A year later, users of Facebook Messenger are still waiting. What’s new in Microsoft Bot Framework – Chatbot’s Life Microsoft--a serious dog in this fight, eh?They’re coming out swinging, from updates to LUIS, to analytics tools, better documentation, and the introduction of Cortana Skills. As we covered last week, we’re *very* excited about the inclusion of bots in Bing searches and would argue that’s the biggest step for bot discovery, dare we say even more intuitive than the Messenger Bot store?Make sure the bot’s focus and goals are clear and it does something to speed up a known process. Take time and build something to last, not something that will be only used for a day and then lost in obscurity. This one has to do a little bit with what was mentioned above.Once you have a concept down and you’re ready to execute it, you need to focus on how you’re going to tackle the solution in the best possible way.
Of course there's a lot of excitement around payments, but we’re pretty pumped about these new video messaging features. This criterion depends on the ability of a computer program to impersonate a human in a real-time written conversation with a human judge, sufficiently well that the judge is unable to distinguish reliably—on the basis of the conversational content alone—between the program and a real human. The notoriety of Turing's proposed test stimulated great interest in Joseph Weizenbaum's program ELIZA, published in 1966, which seemed to be able to fool users into believing that they were conversing with a real human.Instead of doing that, focus on how you can solve a problem better than anyone else and offer a good solution. You could rush it, but good luck getting a loyal user base if you’re not really solving anything.
