Dating a fender stratocaster guitar

Fender American Vintage Reissue Stratocasters have serial numbers that begin at V000001 in 1982 and are now approaching V200000 in 2008.Each American Reissue Stratocaster that left the factory had one of these V serial numbers stamped into the neckplate.I have come across many guitars with a serial number in the V012000's with a 1982 neckdate.I have also come across guitars with a V012000 serial number with a 1986 neckdate. My intent with this site is to educate those who are on the hunt for that last affordable vintage Fender Stratocaster.

Some dealers simply go by the serial number, which you will discover can be far from accurate. So, you can't afford that '54 Strat, or that '64, or even that '74 for that matter.Your last chance to own a vintage Fender Stratocaster is with the guitars of the late 1970's.All AVRI strat necks were finished in a thin nitrocellulose finish. The decal on the headstock was placed over the nitro finish, so it is not uncommon to see instruments with imperfect decals.
